Deartra D. Madkins-Boone

BBA, MH

Deartra D. Madkins-Boone was raised in Dallas, Texas.  She attended Dallas public schools.  After graduating from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, she attended Tarleton State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management with a minor in Technical Writing.  She also received a Master’s of Humanities in English and Creative Writing. She worked as an administrative assistant in corporate American before becoming a paraprofessional (teacher’s aide) at Lillie J. Jackson Early Childhood Center in Lewisville Independent School District.  She is currently an English Composition professor at Richland College and a Technical Writing professor at Collin College.  She is also a writing coach at Richland College.  She has published several short stories, “Rumors” and “Mama Pearl.”  She has published two poetry chapbooks, Shenanigans and Love Dictates.  She has published an essay, Sermons, Religion, & The Civil Rights Movement.  She has been active in her church her entire adult life, serving as a Children’s Ministry teacher, Children’s Sunday school teacher, and as Director of Education for a Biblical Institute.  She is married to her wonderful husband, Herman Boone.
